Quick Summary

  • Ask whether you are talking to the company that owns the trucks or a broker that subcontracts the job.
  • Get an all-in price: delivery, pickup, disposal, rental days, and the weight allowance should all be stated up front.
  • Know the overage rate, the cost of extra days, and what items are not allowed before the container arrives.
  • Read recent Google reviews for mentions of on-time delivery, communication, and billing.

Why the Company You Pick Matters

Most roll-off dumpsters look the same. The difference is in everything around the container: whether it arrives on the day you were promised, whether the price you were quoted is the price you pay, and whether someone answers the phone when the bin is full and your crew is waiting.

A few minutes of questions before you book can save a missed delivery, a billing surprise, or a load that gets refused at pickup. This guide walks through what to ask and what a good answer sounds like.

A local hauler sends its own truck and driver. Ask any company you call who will actually make the delivery.

Local Hauler or National Broker?

Many dumpster websites that rank in search are brokers. They take your order and pass it to whichever local hauler will accept it. That can work, but it adds a middle layer between you and the people driving the truck.

Local Hauler

  • Owns the trucks and containers
  • You talk to the team that delivers
  • Knows local roads, HOAs, and permit offices
  • Changes and swaps handled directly

Broker

  • Subcontracts your order to another company
  • Questions pass through a call center
  • Hauler may change from one order to the next
  • Pricing can include a markup

The easiest way to tell: ask where the trucks are parked and who will make the delivery. The Dumpster Co. is a family-owned hauler based in Jackson, with a location in McDonough, and our own team delivers and picks up every container. Learn more about our family-owned company.

What a Fair Price Should Include

A real quote is more than a headline number. Before you book, make sure you know:

  • What is included. Delivery, pickup, and disposal should be in the price, not added later.
  • How many rental days. A low price for a short rental can cost more than a fair price for a longer one.
  • The weight allowance. Every container has a tonnage limit. Ask how many tons are included.
  • The overage rate. Ask what each ton over the allowance costs.
  • Extra day charges. Projects run long. Know the daily rate before it matters.
  • Add-ons that weren't in the quote. Ask directly whether any will be added.

How we price it

Our rates are flat and include delivery, pickup, and disposal. A 5-day rental starts at $360 for a 10 yard, $375 for a 15 yard, and $410 for a 20 yard. Weight allowances run from 1 ton on the 10 yard to 4 tons on the 30 yard, overage is $85 per ton, and extra days are $15 each.

Our dumpster rental cost breakdown lists every size, and the guide to dumpster weight limits explains how tonnage is measured.

Sample Quote: How the Math Works

Here is how a real rental adds up, using our own published rates for a 20 yard dumpster. Your project will differ, but the structure is what you should expect from any honest quote.

Line itemAmount
20 yard dumpster, 5-day rental (delivery, pickup, and disposal included, 2 tons allowed)$410
Kept 2 extra days at $15 per day$30
Load weighed 3 tons, 1 ton over the allowance at $85 per ton$85
Total$525

Every number on that bill was known before the dumpster arrived. That is the test for any quote you get: if you cannot work out your final cost from what the company tells you up front, ask more questions before you book.

Tip: The easiest way to keep the bill at the base price is to pick the right size and keep heavy material like shingles, concrete, and wet yard waste in check. Our roofing dumpster guide covers the heaviest common job.

Sizes, Availability, and Delivery Windows

A good company will help you pick the right size instead of selling you the biggest one. Ask what they recommend for your project and why. If the answer is a guess, keep looking.

Also ask:

  • Which sizes they carry, and whether the one you need is available on your date
  • How soon they can deliver, and how far ahead you should book in busy seasons
  • Whether they offer swap-outs if the container fills before the job is done
  • Whether you need to be home for delivery and pickup

We carry 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40 yard roll-offs plus a 20 yard concrete dumpster, and we offer same-day or next-day delivery whenever our schedule allows. Booking a few days ahead is the safest way to lock in your date. Not sure what you need? Our dumpster size guide compares every option, and the guide to dumpster swap-outs explains how swaps work.

Rules, Placement, and Permits

The right company tells you the rules before the container arrives, not after a load is refused. Ask for a clear list of what cannot go in the dumpster, where they can and cannot place it, and whether your project needs a permit.

In most of middle Georgia, a dumpster on your driveway or private property does not need a permit. A container on a public street usually does, and many subdivisions have HOA rules of their own. A local hauler should know which city or county office to point you to.

Red Flags to Watch For

Most problems with a dumpster rental can be spotted on the first phone call. Be careful when a company:

  • Quotes a price without asking about your project. A good hauler asks what you are throwing away, because debris type affects size and weight.
  • Will not say how many tons are included. A vague weight answer is where most surprise charges come from.
  • Cannot tell you where their trucks are based. That usually means a broker is passing your order along.
  • Has no local address or phone number. You want someone nearby to call when plans change.
  • Pressures you to book right now. A fair price today is a fair price tomorrow.
  • Raises the price at checkout beyond the quote. Your quote should be the price you pay, with delivery, pickup and disposal included.
  • Has recent reviews that mention late pickups or billing disputes. One bad review happens. A pattern is a warning.

Questions to Ask Based on Who You Are

Homeowners

  • Will the container fit on my driveway, and how do you protect the surface?
  • Do I need a permit or HOA approval where I want it placed?
  • Can I extend the rental if the project runs long, and what does it cost?

See our residential dumpster service for home projects.

Contractors

  • Can you set up standing swap-outs so my crew never waits on a full container?
  • How fast can you respond when a site needs a swap today?
  • Can you add porta potties to the same order?

Our construction dumpster rentals page covers job site sizing and swaps.

Property Managers and Businesses

  • Can you deliver to a parking lot or loading dock, and what clearance does the truck need?
  • Can you time delivery and pickup around a tenant move-out?
  • Is there a long-term contract, or do I rent by the job?

How to Read Reviews

Star ratings help, but the details in the reviews tell you more. Look for recent Google reviews that mention:

  • On-time delivery and pickup. The most common complaint in this industry is a container that shows up late or sits full for days.
  • Communication. Did the company call or text with updates? Did someone answer when plans changed?
  • Billing. Watch for reviews that mention surprise charges after pickup.
  • How problems were handled. Every company has a bad day. The response matters more than the mistake.

Here is the kind of detail worth looking for, from real Google reviews of The Dumpster Co.:

"There were no hidden cost. We paid exactly what we were quoted."

Google review, Covington customer

"On time delivery at a very reasonable price. Very courteous and responsive to calls and inquiries."

Google review, Hampton customer

"Our experience with this company is always pleasant. Their communication is always on point."

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if a dumpster company is a broker?

Ask where their trucks are based and who will make the delivery. A local hauler owns its trucks and containers and sends its own driver. A broker takes the order and passes it to another company.

What should be included in a dumpster rental quote?

A complete quote should include delivery, pickup, disposal, the number of rental days, and the weight allowance, plus the overage rate and the cost of extra days. Ask whether the quote is the full price.

Is the cheapest dumpster rental always the best deal?

Not always. A low price with a short rental period or a small weight allowance can cost more in the end than a flat, all-in rate. Compare the full price for your actual project.

How far ahead should I book a dumpster?

Booking a few days ahead is the safest way to lock in your date. The Dumpster Co. offers same-day or next-day delivery whenever our schedule allows.

What are red flags when renting a dumpster?

Watch for a price given without questions about your project, no clear answer on how many tons are included, no local address, pressure to book immediately, and a final price that does not match the quote.

Does The Dumpster Co. require a long-term contract?

No. We do not require long-term contracts. You rent for the job, and we pick up when it is done.
