Quick Summary

  • Interior demo and remodel tear-outs usually fit a 15 or 20 yard. Large and whole-structure demolition debris calls for a 30 or 40 yard.
  • Concrete, brick, block and asphalt go in our 20 yard concrete dumpster, kept separate from other debris.
  • Demo debris gets heavy fast. Every size includes a weight allowance, and overage is $85 per ton.
  • Asbestos and other hazardous materials cannot go in any dumpster, so test older buildings before demo starts.

Demolition fills a dumpster faster than almost any other job. Drywall, framing, flooring, cabinets, roofing and fixtures come out all at once, and much of it is heavy. The Dumpster Co. rents roll-off containers for demo debris across middle Georgia, from a single-room gut job to a full tear-down. This guide covers how to pick the size, stay inside the weight allowance and keep concrete separate so the job runs on one schedule.

Which Size Fits Your Demo

Single room or bathroom gut: 15 yard

A bathroom or small interior tear-out fits in a 15 yard dumpster, which holds about 4 to 5 pickup truck loads. Our bathroom remodel guide covers that job in detail.

Kitchen or multi-room interior demo: 20 yard (most common)

The 20 yard dumpster holds about 6 to 7 pickup loads and is the usual pick for kitchens, flooring removal across several rooms and deck tear-offs.

Large renovation or light structure demo: 30 yard

The 30 yard dumpster is built for demolition projects and commercial renovations, with about 9 to 10 pickup loads of space and a 4 ton weight allowance.

Full tear-down or major demolition: 40 yard

Our 40 yard dumpster is the largest size we offer, for large-scale demolitions and major construction. It is reserve-by-phone only, so call (678) 306-9993 to check availability.

Weight: The Real Limit on Demo Jobs

On demolition jobs, weight usually runs out before space does. Plaster, tile, cement board and wet debris are dense. Each container includes a weight allowance: 1 ton on the 10 yard, 1.5 tons on the 15 yard, 2 tons on the 20 yard and 4 tons on the 30 yard. Weight over the allowance is $85 per ton, and we disclose it before delivery.

Use the estimator below to check a load before you book. Our weight limit guide has the full material weight table.

Concrete, Brick and Masonry

Concrete, brick, block and asphalt cannot go in a standard roll-off. They go in our 20 yard concrete dumpster, which is reinforced for heavy loads and holds clean concrete or masonry only. If your demo includes a slab, footings, a chimney or a brick wall, plan on a concrete container for that material and a standard roll-off for everything else. See our concrete dumpster rental page for details.

What Goes In and What Does Not

Most demo debris goes straight in: framing lumber, drywall and plaster, flooring, cabinets, countertops, doors, windows, roofing, siding, insulation and metal. A few items need a phone call or are not allowed at all:

  • Asbestos: not allowed in any dumpster. Buildings from before 1980 may have it in insulation, floor tile, roofing and pipe wrap. Get it tested before demo starts.
  • Old pressure-treated lumber: wood from before 2004 may contain CCA. Call us first if you are not sure of its age.
  • Appliances with refrigerant: refrigerators and AC units go in only after a certified technician removes the refrigerant.
  • Paint, chemicals, tires, batteries and propane tanks: not allowed.

Search any item in our what can go in a dumpster guide or check the full prohibited items list.

Before Demo Day

Plan placement first. The truck needs about 60 feet of straight-line access, and a driveway or paved pad is the best spot. Our driveway prep checklist covers protection, and the dumpster permit guide covers street placement. Load heavy, flat material on the floor first and break down long pieces, as shown in our loading tips. On bigger jobs, a swap-out keeps the crew working when the first container fills.

Contractors running demo on a regular basis can ask about volume pricing. See construction dumpster rental and commercial dumpster rental for job-site scheduling, or residential dumpster rental for homeowner projects. Current base rates are on our dumpster rental cost page.
